16IR Internal Indexable Carbide Threading Insert The 16IR is a high-precision, laydown-style carbide insert specifically engineered for internal thread-turning operations. Designed to be held in internal boring bars (SIR holders), it allows for the creation of accurate internal threads in bores as small as its clearance allows. These inserts feature a triangular, three-edged design, providing a balance of stability and economic value for CNC lathe operations.

  • Internal Machining Specialist: Unlike the external 16ER, the 16IR is geometry-optimized for the confined spaces of a hole, ensuring proper clearance and chip flow.

  • High-Grade Substrate: Crafted from ultra-fine sub-micrograin tungsten carbide, offering the toughness required for interrupted internal cuts and the hardness for long tool life.

  • Advanced Coating Systems: Typically available with PVD coatings like TiAlN, TiSiN, or Bronze Nano-coating, which provide a thermal barrier and prevent “built-up edges” in stainless steel and superalloys.
